The fur trade has been a significant part of Canada’s history for the last 500 years and although animal trapping still plays an integral part in a steady percentage of Canadians lives the century old tradition is not necessarily something the average person gets to see. January 9th saw the return of the annual Minden district fur harvesters workshop held at the Minden community centre. Taxidermists, fur demonstrations, judging of fur bundles, fur accessories and fashions and trapping supplies were all part of the event last Saturday.

Rick Bye, twice Canadian racing champion and Porsche Cup driver, was on the Minden fairgrounds ice track last weekend putting a Porsche Boxster and a Porsche Cayenne through their paces for a CTV report on tire safety. Acceleration, braking and handling tests were designed to determine the differences in cars equipped with all season radials as opposed to dedicated winter tires. CTV plans to air the results and a report will also be posted on the its web site at some future date.
